What is happening in Korea in 1648CE

Korea continued to flourish under the Choson dynasty. It became an increasingly centralized state, with all officials directly appointed by the central government. However, in the late 16th century the country was shattered by two great Japanese invasions of 1592-3 and 1597-8. One notable incident in these wars, again showing Korean inventiveness, is the first appearance in history of iron warships.

Further invasions, this time from the Manchu, added to Korea’s misfortunes. However, with the Manchu invasion of China and the establishment of their Qing dynasty, Korea again experiences stability, as a tributary state of China. The country sets about rebuilding its economy.
