Director of TimeMaps delivers presentation to QCA
| |
Peter Britton, director of TimeMaps, recently delivered a presentation to the QCA about "Understanding Chronology: an IT perspective".
He used two programs, the Softease Timeline creator alongside the TimeMaps Interactive Map of World History, to show how IT can be utilised to develop children's understanding of Chronology.
With a task of producing a timeline as an example, Peter showed how both programs used together could develop children's understanding of Roman Britain.
Softease Timeline was used to allow the quick and easy creation of a timeline - a valuable exercise to reinforce children’s grasp of the timetable of key events. And the Interactive Map of World History was used as a research tool – allowing children find out about the key historical events in their broader context, helping them to understand better the proper significance of these events.
Finally, the concept of a “World History” timeline was introduced, to give children a much stronger sense of where topics fit in with each other, and, with both programs being used together, an awareness of the larger picture within which these topics were set.
